The fact of the matter is battling the bulge takes different strategies and approaches depending upon your genetics, your metabolism, your willpower, etc. What works for your buddy won’t necessarily be your be-all and end-all solution. To simplify things, we compiled plenty of tips to help rev your metabolism, lose your love handles, and unsheathe your abs. You’ll have to do some trial and error to deduce which ones work best for you (hey, losing weight is hard work). But if you put in the work (aka incorporate a few of these tips each week), you’ll be well on your way to a smaller waistline. Who said your glory days were in the past?

“Under normal conditions, humans absorb only about 80% of the nutrients from the food they eat,” says A. Roberto Frisancho, Ph.D., a weight-loss researcher at the University of Michigan. But, he says, when the body is deprived of nourishment, it becomes a super-efficient machine, pulling what nutrients it can from whatever food is consumed. Start eating again normally and your body may not catch up; instead it will continue to store food as fat.
When one is losing weight, people tend to shed their bad eating habits and exercise daily, something which was not part of their routine before. Surely, the regime will not be as crucial as before, but if the same life style is not maintained, it would be easier to slip back in to bad habits and gain the kilos which were shed. Balanced diet containing carbohydrates (55%), fats (25%) and proteins (20%) in the food. Exercising everyday will not be off the books either, as said earlier, it will not be as extreme as before, but it is important to exercise any at least half an hour each day for five days in a week, so weight can be maintained successful. It is easy to let yourself go after a goal has been reached, but letting go of exercise routine will result in a big setback.
The internal and external obliques, which I like to call "nature's girdle," are located at the sides of the rectus abdominis. They are the muscles you use when you bend sideways at the spine or twist at the waist. They also contract to compress the abdomen, so you should work them just as hard as you work the rectus abdominis. Adding a twist to crunches works, as well as dumbbell side bends, but be careful not to use any jerky motions, especially if you've had back problems.

Work your core. When many people think of core strengthening, they think of stomach crunches. Crunches are helpful for building abdominal muscles, but contrary to popular belief, crunches won't do much to lose the layer of fat stored in your belly, and can actually cause significant damage to the spine.[34] Instead, try a workout routine that strengthens your whole core, like yoga, or try abdominal presses and planking.[35]
Carbohydrates are converted into sugar when they enter your bloodstream. Since your body doesn’t usually need all the energy that the sugar produces, it converts most of the energy into fat. The plummet in blood sugar levels that always follows a spike causes you to feel hungry for more sugar. If this cycle is continually repeated, you won’t be able to lose weight fast; in fact, you might gain weight.
If you’re only getting a minimal amount of sleep each night, that leaves more time for you to snack and make otherwise unhealthy decisions that could affect your weight loss. Although it will vary from person to person on how much sleep you actually need to be most effective (and therefore make progress toward your weight loss goals), the ideal number is typically 7 or 8 hours, says Dr. Cheskin.

Since starting this diet on Monday I am down 10 lbs but I workout 2x a day. An 1hr in the morning using the elliptical and 30 min after work. The 1st day 4 lbs down then 2 each day after. I am on day 5. This diet is very hard but is paying off. I plan to do it again in about 2 weeks but incorporating fish and eggs because I also lift weights and need more protein. So this week I have not lifted as much because it does lack in that unless you can eat thing like beans for it. I gotta admit I got really sick of eating fruit all day because it taste way to sweet for me and felt like I had a sugar rush from eating candy even though it was fruit. I got sick of certain smells too but I pushed through and it’s going pretty well. Good luck to anyone else who tried is.
I have now lost 17 pounds with garcinia cambogia (I hope to lose another 15 pounds or so.) I have not followed any diet plan and have been pretty much eating what I want. I have cut out soda and have been drinking only water. I do not buy potato chips because I am not good at portion control with them. I did splurge a little during the holidays but did not put on any weight. I have not done any aerobic exercise. Hope to add indoor biking soon. This product works for me and it can work for you too. I followed advice from here:
Put into a soup pot 1 can of no-salt-added red beans (drained), 4 cups low-sodium vegetable juice like Knudsen’s Very Veggie Low-Sodium Juice, 2 to 3 teaspoons oregano or Italian-style seasoning, and 2 cups of any veggies you already have sitting in the refrigerator bin, such as carrots, celery, and onions. Rough-chop the vegetables into bite-size pieces and bring to a boil, simmering until vegetables are crisp-tender, about 10 to 15 minutes. If desired, top with a tablespoon of fat-free sour cream.

Your parents weren't kidding about how important veggies are for a healthy body. What they probably didn't tell you, however, was that snacking on veggies is also one of the easiest ways to shed unwanted belly fat, too. According to a study published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, opting for non-starchy veggies, like cauliflower, broccoli, and cucumber, as snacks helped overweight kids shed 17 percent of their visceral fat while improving their insulin sensitivity over a five-year period. Don't go it alone when it comes to weight loss—unless you want to make things harder on yourself. Research shows that changing and maintaining healthy behaviors is made easier with support from others. Most friends and family members want to be supportive of your weight loss efforts, but may be unsure how to help you, so help them help you. Be specific about the support you need. Rather than saying, "Help me eat healthier and exercise more," say, "Could you go for a 20-minute walk with me after dinner on Mondays and Wednesdays," or "It would be great if you could offer me a small bowl of popcorn rather than a bowl of ice cream as an evening snack."
Eating can become just as disorganized and chaotic as any other activity that isn't thought out ahead of time. Planning establishes structure, which can help you stay within a calorie budget, reduce daily decision-making, and prevent overeating. Carve out some time today to think through a plan for the week. Start with a few basic foods to eat each day and add others to diversify your meals. Make a grocery list as you go. (Make it even easier! Cook quick meals at home that taste great and fight fat! Ideally, health experts recommend that you aim for a loss of 1 to 2 pounds a week (7 days). Aiming to lose 2 pounds in a day is extreme and potentially dangerous; it is neither recommended nor guaranteed as an outcome. However, there are unusual times when a person considers this necessary, such as before a weigh-in for sports, so there are plans for achieving this in existence for those rare, one-off occasions. For details on this topic, see How to Lose 2 Pounds in One Day.

Keeping a toothbrush handy can do more than polish up that smile (and counter the effects of all that belly-slimming garlic); brushing your teeth throughout the day can also help you ditch that belly fat fast. A study conducted a sample of over 14,000 participants found that brushing after every meal was linked to lower weight. That minty toothpaste flavor not only clashes with virtually every food, brushing may also trigger a Pavlovian response that tells your brain the kitchen's closed.
